Out of the window

Cropped images from photos I took last week in Phitsanulok.

The start of another week

Every Monday afternoon I seem to have a very noisy Grade 1 class. Today was different, they were very good and actually tried speaking English with me. I even got them to learn a role play and practice speaking whilst I listened. Maybe a break through day with them I hope. At the end of the lesson one of the students gave me two tiny birds he had made, very sweet. So a good start to the week.

I hope you all have a great week!

Active weekend

So I was making tea last night and suddenly spotted one of our students out of the window. He was standing at the top of this tree, (this tree is about 30ft so he was pretty high up). He is only holding on with one hand and trying to drop fruit onto the ground with a stick. I can't believe a. The students are allowed to do this and b. That they are not scared!

At any time of the day here you will find students working in the fields, cleaning and hanging around at the top of trees. I have been woken up many mornings at 5am by students sweeping the ground outside the flat. They are so active and spent most of their time outdoors- they must do 14hr days everyday. Although in every classroom you will find at least one student asleep in lessons.

My weekend on the other hand was not very active. On Saturday we rode to the shop and that was about it. I spent most of the weekend, relaxing outside, reading and eating.

So it's the start of another week... Have a great one!

A trip into town

At the moment it seems to be raining most of the time. Luckily at the weekend the sun came out for a while and we managed to borrow a motorcycle to ride into town. Its about 15 minutes away and the views are beautiful. The area is surrounded by mountains and rice fields. Below are some photos I took on our way..

The start of another week..

A photo of our breakfast yesterday- cereal, toasted raisin bread with marmalade and a big cup of tea. I love the cute trays the school gave us when we first got here. They remind me of lunchtime at primary school.

I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was spent mostly sleeping and eating. Although on Saturday I sat in a hall waiting around for about 5 hours then listening to a language I don't understand for 2 hours. I can't believe it is August already and the start of a new week. I have just finished lessons for the day... My last lesson was spent breaking up a lovers tiff which started in the middle of class. So an eventful start to the week.

I hope you have a great week......

Have a great weekend

This weekend the school has important visitors from the Kings foundation. This school is one of many that were set up by the King to help under privileged children. It is such a great opportunity for many of the students, most come from hill tribe villages in the mountains and may not have had access to materials and equipment otherwise. All the students are happy all the time, they live at the school and have their meals, clothes and school equipment provided for them.

A picture of the students practicing for tomorrow, they are singing the King's song.

Whatever you are doing, I hope you have a great weekend!

Another thunder storm

The sky and the atmosphere can be really great here just before a thunder storm. It can be sunny and boiling hot one minute and then all of a sudden you see a huge dark cloud. Last night I jumped as without warning we had deafening thunder right over the school. Luckily we got back to the flat in time to sit cosy inside before it rained again.

*pictures of the dark cloud looming just over our flat

Some photos of our school

On the way back from lunch today I had my IPad with me so decided to take some pictures of our school. We have a surprise afternoon off ( although I have to write exams ) as all the students are busy cleaning the whole school grounds, there is apparently a very important visitor coming this weekend. So this afternoon I will try and relax a little- it was very sunny here and that means hot! Below are some photos, you can see mountains in the distance on a couple of them and the tiny fan in the classroom that doesn't cool you down whilst teaching!

My sweet tooth misses.......

I know I have been eating my weight in doughnuts, waffles and biscuits since I arrived over here (I am currently snacking on Cream- o's-exactly like Oreos but they changed the name) but I still miss (in a big way) the cakes and puddings I used to eat back home. Here are a few of my favourites, I will drool over these pictures as I can't eat them....

Apple crumble

The hard to eat gracefully vanilla slice

Victoria sponge

Scones, always remind me of days out with my mum

And the two things I miss the most....

Chocolate cake ( I am yet to find any as delicious over here)

Custard ( the way my mum made it )

(Images found here, here, here, here, here and here)
